The 2005 DCFASHIONWEEK Designers

The designers of DCFASHIONWEEK are an eclectic group of designing talent who come from around the globe. From the high fashion capitol of New York City, to the exotic coasts of New Zealand, to the exquisite city life of Belgium, these fashionistas are ready to take city of DC by storm.

 

Corjor International (www.corjor.com)

Former model/actor Ean Williams is the mastermind behind Corjor International and is the executive producer of DCFASHIONWEEK.  The Corjor label boasts three divisions, which are men’s upscale loungewear; men’s urban sports wear and women’s couture evening dresses. Ean Williams is the recipient of the 2003 Indie Best Menswear designer (NY) and is on the advisory board member of the Black Fashion Designers Association, Inc.  Ean Williams, inspired by a pinup poster of Lena Horne, made her look the focus on his new women’s collection.  Corjor International has graced the pages of numerous publications including Upscale Magazine, One Life Magazine, The Fashion Manuscript and The Gazette. Corjor is available at select boutiques nationwide.

 

Troy Artis (www.troyartis.com)

At the tender age of ten, Troy Artis designed and stitched a suit for his grandmother that she proudly wore to a wedding, crooked seams and all. After high school, he attended FIT Fashion Institute of Technology. While there he received hands on training interning at clothing companies in the garment district of NY. Artis worked as designer for GirlyGear and YTLA. Artis gained valuable experience in the fashion industry by working with leading edge designers Helen Smith of AllWhite, Robert Rosario, and Robin Tyler Couture. In one word, KAS Collection is passion.  It is about the intense emotion, grand enthusiasm, and creative spirit of one man and his love of fashion. Named “Hot Designer of 2003” by Nofic (see www.nofic.com), he is definitely the hot pick of many top athletes (Chris Webber, Mitch Richmond, Sam Cassell, Juan Howard), R&B and Hip Hop stars, hair shows and fashion expos from New York to Chicago and star-studded galas such as the Positive Black Men’s Coalition, California Black Caucus, and the 2001 NBA All-star Fashion Show.

 

 KIWI Couture

New Zealand Fashion Designer, Kathleen P. Newton presents her label 'Kiwi'...Kiwi taken from the National Bird of her homeland New Zealand.  Ms. Newton designs with a flair for color, originality and innovative clothing.  Kiwi's designs transport you to various avenues in a women's life.  The professional suit, tocasual, clubbing clothing to cocktail and evening gowns, Ms Newton offers them all with a memorable style and flair – something for everyone to wear.

Anthony’s designs have been seen at various venues including MTV Music awards, BET Awards. This New Jersey Designer is on the move with a line that has clients eagerly anticipating the next collection.

 

Evocative Designs (www.evocativedesigns.com)

Evocative! Designs, creator and owner, Jeri S. Wood is a 31 year old female designer who has been designing women's clothing for 15 years. Still residing in her hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, Jeri participates in local fashion shows within the Baltimore, Washington D.C., area as well as out of state events. She specializes in unique and individual clothing that brings out the sexuality in all women. Jeri is very popular with young women (17 - 25) because of proms and fashion shows. However, she makes clothing for all ages, specializing in sizes 0 - 16.

 

VMAC 

Victor Colvin, a native Washingtonian, and Everton McNeil, who hails from Jamaica, are the design duo known as VMAC. With 20 years plus experience respectively, they have done design and/or production for several Metro area urban lines such as Mchunu, AllDaz, Shooters, and Madness just to name a few. Their collection runs the gamut from playful, trendsetting urban wear to vivacious, timeless eveningwear with a modern twist. Their designs have been featured in Black Men’s Magazine, Musicians Minds, and Beauty News, amongst other publications.

 

  Identity by Fatou Mata

Pierre Cardin’s spiritual daughter and for glamour’s side : Versace  …. In some words an aristocratic-looking collection. ” This Belgium designer is quoted as saying she works on identities, codes, symbols all this is translated in beauty, proportions, know-how haute couture. The critics agree, often gracing the fashion editorial pages of numerous European publications, Identity is one of France’s couturiers making her mark.  DCFASHIONWEEK is the first to bring this talented designer to premier her collection in the United States.

Emore'J

Emore'J Couture consists of brightly flamboyant colors, creative cuts, and unique draping. The youngest of all the DCFASHIONWEEK designers, Emorej started in the hallways of Ballou High School,with jeans and t-shirts. Now while attending college , his style has change in many of ways. Critics say that if you want to sum up his designing style, just say that Emore'j is fabulous!

 

Dee's Fashions

This Richmond Designer inherited her talent from her grandmother. She states her grandmother could make anything. She never used a pattern. At the age of nine, Dee started making doll clothes, and then she started making clothes for sister and for herself. A self-taught seamstress who loves fashion design, Dee feels that she has been bless with a gift from God. A gift that has enabled her to build a strong clientele, in the Richmond area, Dees’ Fashions is a favorite at proms and weddings.

 

Donita Vann of Philadelphia

Donita Vann of Philadelphia , currently residing in the Washington DC metropolitan area has been in the business for more than 25 years.She started making her own clothes by turning her jeans into skirts by sewing them hand by hand. Soon she was making them for everyone, and started her own business, To Top it Off! by donita. She has been featured in seven fashion layouts for Sister’s in Style Magazine. She has sewn for many celebrities such as the late Phyllis Hyman, Patti Labelle, Janice Combs (PDiddy's Mom) Teddy Pendergrass, Ananda Lewis (BET/MTV). She has also done many shows for FIT, Parson’s School of Designs , Bally’s Casino and Fashion Café.

Diallo DeJaun

Diallo DeJaun is an up-scale designer label, which specializes, in creating and manufacturing haute couture and ready-to-wear (RTW).  DialloDeJaun

is based in Loundoun County in the Washington, DC area. Diallo DeJaun as an organization will play a vital role in the fashion industry.  Our goal is to help Washington DC become the next Global fashion capital, along with Milan, London, Paris, New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
